Dr. Abdul Hanan Sheikh

Professor, Department of Mathematics & Statistics, and Director, Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) — Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science & Technology (QUEST), Nawabshah.

I build robust numerical methods for the equations behind waves, fields and flow — discretization schemes, iterative solvers, and the preconditioners that make them converge fast.

About

Background

I’m a Professor in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at QUEST, Nawabshah, where I also serve as Director of the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC). My work sits at the intersection of numerical analysis and scientific computing: discretization techniques, iterative solvers for large linear systems, and the preconditioners — including projection and deflation methods — that make those solvers converge quickly.

From 2009 to 2014 I was part of the Numerical Analysis group at the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics, TU Delft, working under dr.ir. Domenico Lahaye and Prof. dr. ir. C. Vuik on fast, robust solvers for the Helmholtz equation — combining the CSLP preconditioner with a multigrid deflation technique.

Since returning to Pakistan I’ve supervised 2 PhD and 7 MS theses to completion, and I’m currently guiding 3 PhD and 5 MS students through their research.
